Oak Ridge is a Peanut Free/Tree Nut Restricted Environment
Our goal is to ensure that students with food allergies have a safe and welcoming learning environment. Children with food allergies face life-threatening reactions when these allergens are ingested or in some cases, inhaled.
Peanut Free And Tree Nut Restricted Classrooms
All classrooms including the media center, music room, art room, and gym have been designated as "NUT FREE." This means that no snacks containing any kind of peanuts or tree nuts will be allowed. Students may eat tree nuts in the lunchroom only. There are no peanuts allowed anywhere in the school or on school grounds.
Teacher And Lunch Monitor Awareness Training
All staff will receive education and information on specific allergies of Oak Ridge students along with procedures for addressing allergic reactions. Each staff is trained in signs of an anaphylactic reaction as well as how to administer epinepherine auto injectors.
Emergency Kits
New child identified bags with their specific allergy medications are readily accessible to staff in the school office. If your child is in need of a kit, see Sarah Garcia in the front office.
One Page Picture Sheet
All parents of students with life threatening food allergies can sign a permission slip and provide a 2 x 3" picture that will be added to a one page sheet. This sheet is distributed to each teacher and staff member at school. This ensures that everyone is aware of the students in the school with life threatening allergies.
Lunch Room Allergy Table
There is a table available for any children who have various food allergies in the lunchroom.
